how can i get my teenagers to read, rather than watch TV or play video games? i think there are just not enough books that appeal to the 15-18 age group... most books out there are either too juvenile or too "adult".

i think kids at this age are just not challenged enough when it comes to books.

There are definitely some books out there for your teenage kids. My sister was reading books all through her high school years. There are books for teenagers from action stories to girly gossip-y books. Just go to a store like Borders and check out the young adult section... you can start with bestsellers to get ideas.

There are some really great books for that age range - Neil Gaiman, Tamora Pierce, Cornelia Funke, Anne Macaffery all write books for that age group. Stardust by Gaiman and Ink Heart by Funke are both really good. Life of Pi by Yann Martel is great too.

But maybe you are going in the wrong direction, modern kids don't want to read books, they want more stimulating adventures. Perhaps finding them a video game developer book where they can write their own video games, or a photoshop book they can play with pictures on their PC.

If they don't like to read have them download books on their iPod, having a book read to you often makes the book more entertaining.

there are many more. if nothing else have them go into Barns&Noble with 20 bucks and say they have to
leave with one novel.
P.S. my aunt is in her late 40s and still reads books from the teen section because their edgey and sometimes have new fresh ideas. read some of the same books as your kids and talk about the twists and turns.
