I don't really have a favorite episode as I'm fairly new to the show. I was amazed by the feature film 'Serenity' and began hunting the series on TV.

I'm bowled over by the quality of the sets, writting and acting. I find it hard to believe that a show of this quality didn't garner an audience large enough to keep it on the air for at least five seasons.

My thanks to UniversalHD for bringing a show of this quality back to television.

I agree, "Out of Gas" is awesome. My daughter likes "Ariel" and "Our Mrs Reynolds." Really I think the best thing about the series was the intellegent dialogue. Joss really wrote some great stuff. The humor is often understated, which makes it that much funnier and also that much more realistic.

OOG was a great episode but the one that will always hold it for me is "War Stories". It was at the end of watching "War Stories" that I realized that Firefly was my favorite show of all time bar none. I really liked all the episodes up to this one but it was still just a really good show at that point. Then came the make point for me. Mal fighting with Niska's henchman. Zoe says not to shoot because this is something the Capt. must do himself (classic invincible super hero crud I've always hated) but Mal yells back "No! No it's not!" and Zoe, Wash, and Jayne capped the bad guy and save Mal. That's the moment I was totally hooked and knew this was the best show I'd ever seen. That's why it's my personal favorite.

No question that Firefly is the greatest show ever made.

What amazes me is that it is loved by so many different ages. I'm in my 40's and my daughter is 12. Firefly is her favorite show and my favorite show. Not too many shows can capture the imagination and interest of such a wide demographic, fewer still can inspire fans the way Firefly has done.

Ain't that the truth. I just wish it wasn't so very short lived. I had never even heard of Firefly until after I seen Serenity on HBO (could have been Showtime or one of the others). That's sad I know. Had it not been for a Best Buy gift card I was lucky enough to have in my pocket when I seen the Firefly DVD Box set I could have missed it all. As it was I bought it on a total whim. The old "This is what gift cards are for... things you kinda want but never want to buy with your own money" thing. I had liked the BDM once I seen it but I wasn't sure how it would work over four disks. Boy was I wrong. I didn't like the show... I LOVED IT! Ate it up in no time and when I was done I went right back to that store looking for Season 2. Fantastic show, good movie, there HAD to be a Season 2 right? Right? The kid at the store broke the bad news to me. "No mister, looks like it was canned in 2002 or something. I don't get it either. I watched it with my friends and it totally rocked. Maybe they'll make another movie I hope (Me too) but their is a comic book graphic novel type thing. You should check that out. Called "Those Left Behind", it's pretty good and about all you're going to get until someone let's Joss Push the Button." I had no idea what he ment about "the button" at the time but I bought the novel too. I'm 34 and the kid had to have been 19 at best. You just don't find much of anything out there that a 19 and 34 year old can talk about. Isn't the 19 - 35 year old demographic what everyone is looking for? I showed my friends, all hooked now just like me. Also, like you said, it's not just us guys I've got a good friend who is just as hooked as me now and she's 27. With all the crud on TV these days I'm just baffeled that this isn't something I'm watching or DVRing every week.

Makes me want to shout "Hey! I've got money. I know what I want to buy! PLEASE WON'T SOMEONE JUST SELL ME THIS!"

I don't think one can pick an episode or a scene. The difficulty with Genius, is the whole bloody thing (series + movie) is terrific...

I love the character development... the relationships... the scripts!!!!!!!!... the acting... special effects... set... Joss's understanding of the deep connection between love and food... risk, joy, excitement, fear, and fun... the part duty and honor play in the life of 'everyman'--

He really is a genius. Can you believe that there are people on the planet that don't get it??? Brain dead. they gotta be numb.

Wow, I'm so excited Firefly is going to UniversalHD...best show in the 'verse! My favorite episode is "Ariel" because I love River and Simon, and that's kind of "their" episode. Really, though, all the episodes (and characters) are great. SHINY!!

Noobie to the 'verse. I had heard all sorts of buzz over the show, but my inability to get into Buffy some years before made me resistant to giving it a chance. My Girlfriend forced me to sit down and watch until I saw the light. I'm now ashamed to say it took until "Shindig." Dear lord, that is a great big chunk of TV heaven. "Shindig" is my favorite episode and my gateway into fandom. The chance to see the crew in HD is what will make me ante-up and throw down for an HD player.
herbsinger42
Oh-- HD player, while still a ways out of my signal, I'm fixin' to pick up cable/ or Dish -- whichever will carry Universal HD. I have resisted paying for TV-- Mostly cause I've been spending money on my students (I teach at a high risk school) BUT the ide aof the 'verse in High Def... The 'Verse getting air time... I'm gonna have ta pull it in... suck it up, and spring for the cash.
Penguin
Firefly is the best television show ever...a perfect mix of cast and story. No show has touched me like Firefly has!

PhoenixRose
My favorite episodes? Oh my, there are so many. 'Serenity' and 'Out of Gas' and 'Heart of Gold' and 'Objects in Space' really rank up there, and the movie holds a special place in my heart for being my introduction to the whole 'verse. Rushed as it was, trying to tell a story like that in two hours, it was a brilliant piece of film, and I fell madly in love. There's no episode I consider a 'bad' one, just maybe a 'less favorite' or two. They all have their moments, and I get sucked in all over again when I watch them! biggrin.gif

Hey everyone - another vote for "Out of Gas" here, although the pilot "Serenity" itself is my second fav.
CaptainCoupi
Pick one!?!? Just one. I have 14 favourites.

OK 'Jaynestown' has a softspot just for the great faces people pull throughout the entire episode.

The prologue of Bushwacked. They're all so happy and having a good time.

Objects In Space and Out Of Gas are just masterpieces.

Rivers pronouncment about cows in Safe.

Kaylee in Shindig and that strawberry moment in Serenity, need I say more.

The funeral in the Message. I get a lump in my throat every time.

I could go on forever but I'll leave it there.
Ariane
I'm so pleased to see this show will be on TV again. It's been so underappreciated and overlooked, especially considering its quality. Someone once said that they weren't sure whether "Firefly" was a cancelled sci-fi show or a new religion. "Either way, prayers for the resurrection are involved." Well, at any rate, I'm thinkin' we'll rise again.

My personal favorite episode, as it is for so many other people, is "Out of Gas." That was above and beyond the call of duty, Mr Minear.
Grayfury
objects in space...It was so deep and touching... It adds more pathos since it was the final episode.
capissen38
If you twisted my arm, I'd be able to narrow it to five or six: "Serenity" (pilot), "Our Mrs. Reynolds", "Out of Gas", "War Stories", and "Objects in Space". If you really twisted my arm, I'd say "Serenity" and "Objects in Space".

I grinned like a giddy fool when I watched my Firefly DVDs on a nice widescreen TV, and now I am blown away by HD. I. Love. It.
Thanks Universal!

I have to say Out Of Gas is my fav. Perfect ep from beginning to end! Then Jaynestown and Shindig. Shindig near the end with Mal in the sword fight, just hilarious!

Hey Penguin and PhoenixRose!
JadeHand
To quote Katsumoto in The Last Samurai, "Perfect... They are all... perfect."

My favourite is still Out of Gas. Objects in Space, Shindig, and War Stories are right behind it.

I tried watching Firefly when it first came out on Fox, but whenever it was supposed to be on, it was pre-empted by sports. I was hungry for good sci-fi and drama that didn't focus on "murder as a form of entertainment". Reality shows are as appealing as a root canal to me, which is why I've been giving up on TV. If you have half a brain, you'll find
much more to do on the net. But when I finally saw Firefly on SciFi in 2005, I
was mesmerized.
It was everything you could want out of a TV show - humor, angst, fascinating characters that grew and changed, dialog to die for, and a very powerful underlying message. If I have any complaint about the series at all, it is that it's ruined "regular" TV for me, because no show is as good as Firefly. Other shows are so very BORING when compared to Firefly - I feel like they waste my time and imagination, especially when I can usually figure out in the teaser how it will end. I am closer to 50 than 40, I have seen a lot of TV come and go, but no TV show has ever touched me as deeply or as meaningfully as Firefly. Please bring it back! There weren't many people who saw it first time around, but there's many more of us now.

Hey Penguin and PhoenixRose!

Favorite ep? Well, I guess I'd have to go with Out of Gas or Bushwhacked. Bushwhacked was the first episode I saw (when it originally aired baby!!!) and the exact moment I fell in love with the show was the beautifully realistic and heartbreaking shot of the direlict being blown away. Out of Gas is probably my absolute favorite though. I literally cry everytime Mal asks, "Y'all gonna be here when I wake up?"

But Firefly and Serenity have a way of doing that. I remember when the student theater here on campus played Serenity a few months after it was out of reg theaters. After the movie I saw my RA walking out, a real big, stone-faced grad student kinda guy. He looked shaken up and said to me, "I still can't...can't hold in...everytime wash..."

Anyway, I'm surprised so many people named Objects in Space. Its great episode but...well I guess I'd like it more if there were an episode fifteen, if you catch my meaning.

oh yea, hey penguin, pr, z-man and sweetserenity!!!

While Out of Gas is for many reasons the best episode I think my favorite has to be Trash. Sure it has a plot hole big enough to fly an alliance cruiser through but the wicked awesome triple cross is what I live for in TV. An impecable heist!
Dragoongfa
I must agree with most of the guys here:

Firefly is the only show that has touched me show much (quote from penguin)

I may live in the opposite side of the atlantic (Ok, ok i am in greece) but i am really thrilled that a station desided to show firefly (in HD too) i have never seen any HD movie or series but i am pretty sure that if someone releases a HD DVD Version of firefly i will buy it (make it region 2 too).
So my favourite episode...

I can not even begin to think about choosing a favourite episode but the one that i laughed my socks off (literally) whas Jaynestown...

Out of Gas, for sure. So, so angsty. So much emotion in that one. Lots of laugh, lots of action, and best of all, it fleshes out the backstory of the crew of Serenity.

Morning browncoats biggrin.gif

We’re on our way to the big city of Houston this morning to drop my youngest son and a friend of his off to play paintball. Then it is to the movies for the wife and I. What will we be seeing? Well what movie has our favorite ace space pilot Wash in it? Yepper we are going to see “Knocked Up” and I can tell you that one of the main reasons is because of funny-man Alan Tudyk. Many of our BDH are still getting support of the browncoats due to FF/Serenity, which I hope to be seeing Alan again in soon. If Uni-vers-al is listening , WE WANT MORE PLEASE!!!

When Firefly’s crew were together they were at their peak performance. How do I know? Because thousands upon thousand of fan will tell you so, which I am one.

So here’s to seeing a really cool movie today (raises a mug of mudders milk) and seeing Mr. Tudyk for some laughs.

Favorite ep... very hard. Each has its shiny moments. I dearly love Objects In Space, Out of Gas, and the pilot Serenity (I am the proud owner of Adam Baldwin's original script for Serenity!) but there's so much goodness in OMR, Jaynestown, War Stories... and eight others.

Nobody answered this, so here goes. Firefly was originally shot on film in widescreen (16:9) format, and the CG scenes were all done to that standard as well. Therefore the transfer to HD was straightforward and all scenes are fully-realized high definition. In some ways it's better on HDTV than the HD versions of movies, since those lose some resolution due to their even-wider-screen format (which must be letterboxed on HDTV).
bowlwoman
Favorite eppy...that's like trying to decide your favorite kind of pie.

If I had to choose 2 (or 3), they'd prolly be Shindig, Our Mrs. Reynolds, and Jaynestown (not in any particular order). The pilot is awesome, OOG is great, Ariel rocks, The Message is up there (if nothing else because of the cunning hat), and all the rest are so much better than anything else on TV in the last 10+ years.
break_free_27
I'm gonna go ahead and be really original when I say "Out of Gas". But I also really enjoy "Shindig" and "Ariel". ALL of the episodes are just absolutely wonderful. Witty dialogue . . . love it . . . the whole show.

Without a doubt, my favorite episode is "Out of Gas". The lighting and music really help to set the mood for this episode, both adding a great deal to the helplessness of the situation we find our captain in.

I like that this episode shows Mal and Zoe stepping onto Serenity for the first time. That we get to see how Wash, Jayne, Inara and Kaylee come to be on the boat. This is by far the best episode of the series.
kshayes
So many people have already voted for Out of Gas. Which is one of my top 2, because of its brilliant structure and the introductions of the crew and the ship (who don't get introduced in the Pilot, they're already a team)

But, since there's so many votes for that, I'm going to vote for Jaynestown. There's that great song, There's River and Book's hair, there's a Kaylee/Simon squabble, there's so many great quotes, and there's that hilarious, brilliant and finally heartbreaking performance by Adam, who always makes me cry at the end.

My gosh, Objects in Space is such a classic. Jubal Early is such a great villian and his (mostly) monologuing is priceless. It's the last ep, but for me it just closes it out perfectly...with a villian I was really hoping to see more of. I love this show!!!

I think it's harder to pick a favorite episode since there are so few from which to choose. I mean, if you had a bunch of kids, would you have a favorite?

It's easier when you've got five or seven seasons from which to select a favorite.

I hardly have to pause to think to tell you my favorite episodes of Buffy are "Earshot", "Once More With Feeling", ""Hush", and "Band Candy".

And my favorite Deep Space Nine episodes have got to be "Trials and Tribble-ations", and "Far Beyond the Stars".

But to chose a favorite Firefly? A task for King Solomon....that's why I bought a second DVD set, so I could loan out a disk, and not have to jones for its return.

No one favorite, it's a unified work, a single jewel.
DeliriumWartner
My favourite episode has got to be Jaynestown closely followed by Our Mrs. Reynolds. Even the worse ones are amazing, so we're spoilt for choice really. Not something you can say about any other series, imo.

I really like Shindig and Ariel.

There are some incredible story and character developments in Heart of Gold.

It is hard to pick one episode above the others. If I had to choose, I would pick the pilot....only because it is 2 hours long!

The very first episode is wonderful, but Shindig and Our Mrs. Reynolds are shiny too.

Favourites are definitely Jaynestown, Ariel, and War Stories. For many different reasons. Of course I enjoyed all of the episodes except Heart of Gold.

They are all my favorites, but "Objects in space", "War Stories" and "Out of gas" are probably the ones that had the most affect on me.

I can't wait to see what else Universal has in store for us, in their dealings with the "verse". Mini Series, Sequel, Trilogy, Spin-Off, All of the above.

Mal: Well look at this. 'Pears we got here just in the nick of time. What does that make us?
Zoë: Big damn heroes, sir.
Mal: Ain't we just.

Mal: [about River] Cut her down.
Patron: The girl is a witch.
Mal: Yeah, but she's our witch.

Mal: So cut her the hell down.

The episode that stands to me as my favourite would be WAR STORIES, It just has everything in it, Violence, torture, humour, gunplay. And NISCKE(probably not spelled correctly) made a really good bad guy.
Dawnsister
I love them all! It's hard because depending on my mood it's all subject to change..

My favorite scene though, is in Serenity because it just gives you the indication of all that's coming:
MAL (cont'd)
How come you didn't turn on me, Jayne?

JAYNE
Money wasn't good enough.

MAL
What happens when it is?

JAYNE
(smiling)
Well that'll be an interesting day.

MAL

I imagine it will.
